Review: McDonald’s Angus Mushroom and Swiss

I already tried the Deluxe Angus Burger and I was enough of a fan to try another angus burger from MCD.  My wife hit the drive thru and she ordered the Bacon and Cheddar burger, no mayo.  However, they botched the order and I got the Mushroom Swiss.  I usually avoid Swiss at fast food places because low quality swiss is far worse than low quality American cheese.  A lot of the times, Mushroom Swiss has a funky gravy with them as well.

Oh yeah, this exact ordering mishap happened to WIBIA friend Bronze Chains as well.

The combo was $5.79.  When I opened the hood on this burger, I thought… wow that is a ton of mushrooms…. I mean, a ton!  The sandwich was a little dry because I took off the mayo, but I do not recommend ordering this one without mayo.  For fast food, the mushrooms were a decent quality and the beef patty wasn’t bad either.  The Swiss cheese was a little waxy, but I wasn’t offended by it.

Would I Buy It Again?  No, get the Deluxe Angus Burger, it’s pretty good.  If you are a mushroom lover and like a burger with your mushrooms, then this might be yo’ thang.  I doubt it though since it sucked.  MCD should take this off the menu and add one with BBQ, Bacon, Pepper Jack and Red Onion or something along those lines.  A spicy burger would be nice.

Nutrition: Calories with mayo 770, 40g fat.

Btw, they changed boxes from the two guys running to this one.  Much better.

  • I never thought about the quality of swiss cheese, but you are right.

And that is a boatload of mushrooms -almost makes it unappealing.

  • That’s a ton o’ ’shrooms! Too funny on the box….guess running guys is not their demographic…or people were feeling bad eating that looking at guys “working out”.

Dude, you’re spot on on replacing the burger…maybe your suggestion with onion rings!!! How come McD’s doesn’t have onion rings…..wtf?

  • Is their an actual burger patty under those shrooms? Wow thats a lot. I agree w/ another burger replacing this one. Hasn’t their been a “special promo” Angus on the west coast while McDonalds was testing the Angus line the last two years? I think it may have had BBQ or something spicy on it.

  • What the hell? What’s with all of the mushrooms? That’s insane.

  • Woo hoo, I got a mention on WIBIA!! :D Thanks for the link!

I think I may have figured out the ordering mishap. Are the bacon/cheese and the mushroom swiss labeled numbers 15 and 16 on the menu? Because I think when I said the number of the combo at the drive-thru, they misunderstood and thought I said the other number. I can see how 15 and 16 would sound similar at the drive-thru.

Sorry you didn’t enjoy the burger :( Mine didn’t have nearly that many mushrooms on it. And I could see it being dry without the mayo. I think the amount of condiments/toppings are bound to vary from restaurant to restaurant, so it sucks that you can never rely on getting the right amount. I would definitely agree that the bacon and cheese angus burger is better than this one.

  • Hey all stop dissing the shrooms! I’ll take them off your hands! I never met a shroom I didn’t like. You may not like shrooms on this burger but if it is made right with the right kind of shrooms they are really good on burgers!

So everyone can ship me their shrooms :D

  • Canned shrooms…theeee worst! Stick to breakfast, the McRib, the McDouble and McCafe and you will be all right.

  • Yeah dude…might as well call it a Fungus Burger. That’s an absurd amount of ’shrooms. This was my least favorite…I’m not big on mushrooms on a burger. A Western Angus would’ve been nice. Yeah Bear….I’d like to see onion rings too. Would be interesting. If not as a side, at least in a Western Angus.

  • I like the onion ring ideas!
@Erin, I will ship you some shrooms!! have you ever had lobster mushrooms, little, red and really tasty. They have a short season and they are $$

  • OMG. I had one and it was heaven, not the mushroom one though, dude, it’s fast food mushrooms. I went to McDonald’s today actually, and I was wondering why they don’t have onion rings too. Time for them to rip off Burger King for a change.

  • The meat on this burger tastes like a slab of salt.
It is without a doubt the worst burger I have ever had.The Mcd website puts it at 1700mg of sodium
but I’m sure the employees add even more:D

  • I purchased a deluxe Angus burger on Tuesday, here in Seattle, and there was no red onions on it. I was upset, I wouldn’t have been interested in it at all but the red onions looked so good so I decided to give it a try. I had just walked about 4 miles, and was on my way home when I saw a billboard of the Angus burger. My fries were hot so I ate them first, had some chocolate shake, then took a bite of the burger, YUK, no red onions, there was diced white onions. The billboard clearly shows red onions, posters in McDonald’s show red onions, TV commercials show red onions, and there is even a picture of a red onion on the burger box. BAIT AND SWITCH to the worst degree. If it happens to you don’t let them get by with it.

  • I had the angus bacon cheesburger today and went during peak dinner hours. The burger was dry, salty and horrible with almost no ketchup and of course the woman at the driveup closed the window before I could ask for extra. I literally was feeling sick 2/3 of the way through this burger. Stick with Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr if you want a good burger that is bad for you.

  • can you get mushroom with cheddar??????

  • I’m a big fan of this burger. One of my favorite fastfood burgers by far. Preferred without the mayo.

  • Mushroom and Swiss with absolutely no taste except the mushrooms and whatever seasoning they used to to spruce them up. Angus fried on a grill, leaves no flavor of beef, only the guilty shame of eating the whole grease filled bomb, because $3.99+tax is too much to waste and hunger demands something to eat. Call this burger the ‘bulimics special.’ I know this is in bad taste, but 6 hours later I can’t get the horror out of my mind. I needed to vent so I came here and see what others are saying about the new Angus.

  • One month later the ill feeling I had in my gullet after consuming this tasteless grease bomb still lingers. Every time I see one of Micky Dee’s truck and trailer combos drive by with the nauseating rolling trailer billboard, my stomach begins to heave and the sarcastic name McDonald’s new “1/3 LB ANUS BURGER” comes to mind.
